Maiden flight for the Page Aviation 80" Cub is scheulded for Sunday June 5th.

I'll bring a carton of coffee around 8:30am and we will go from there.

it would be nice if someone could get some pictures or video.

Most paint stores have the ability to scan a sample colour and mix it for you. There was a place in Dartmouth that could do the same and make a spray can but I can remember the name. My dad had it done to match the colour of his motorhome. I'll see if he remembers.

Partsource on Wyse Rd, Dartmouth can colour-match and make up an aerosol can for you. Tell 'em Vic sent you...

...the maiden went well today. I did make a mistake in taking off from mid field and quickly running out of runway. I know your thinking...but it's a Cub and it has flaps, and a 74 inch wing. That's true, but I was being too gentle on the throttle, and not using the flaps, and with a small crosswind, it was suddenly time to either crap or get off the pot..! I went for it, let that Scorpion 4020/8 loose with a five cell pack and we were airborne. Nothing else too exciting for the maiden...few clicks of down to keep her from climbing. (thanks to John W. for the attached picture)

On the second flight I had Al C. take her up. Wish I had got the takeoff on video, but he was too quick for me; however I got some video of his flight, and hope to have it up on the website by 11pm this evening. (Video at eleven is always what they promise..!) He seemed to like it, so that was nice to hear.

Really nice day today once we got the 8:30am shower over with. Nice crowd out. Al brought his latest turbine plane out and gave us all a demonstration by running up the turbine as well as turning on the smoke system. Really Cool..!

One beautiful model, well constructed and superbly finished in Solartex without a trace of covering overlap.
Certainly , in this day of so few scratch built models, a project to be extremely proud of. Interesting lighting system.
Needs a bit of fine tuning to get dihedral looking scale, but this can be adjusted with the struts. A genuine inspiration to the newcomers in this hobby and standard to emulate.

I had grabbed a short clip (13 sec) of the final landing... well done, Bill!

After the first two flights on Sunday, it was very apparent that I needed to make a change with respect to loading the battery pack when the wing is on. It became a two person job to install the pack and fasten the buckle of the Velcro strap.

The solution is a "battery tray" which gets loaded outside the plane...then installed.

These pictures show what I came up with today.

..here's a picture of the hole made in the firewall to accept the dowel from the tray;

I called Partsource about matching a paint color and putting it in a spray can and only the Wyse Road store in Dartmouth does this, and the cost is $25.00 a can. Thanks again Vic, for the tip.
