Re: Page Aviation 80"Cub build
Oops...
Yes, along the build road there will usually be a time when the "oops factor" comes into play.
I had just covered the larger portion of the two-part wing and after trying a new method of getting the material to flow around the wingtip, and standing back to admire my results, and mentally giving myself a thumbs up "nine out of ten".....the "oops moment" suddenly raised it's ugly head...!
I had laid the wing "top down" on the piece of covering and totally forgot to remove the hinged hatch before sealing all edges..!!!
So now I had to reach for the surgical steel blade and go in and remove the brass hinge and cut free the hatch, hopefully without having too much scar tissue..!
(the brass hinge will be sanded and color matched later)
..the pics show the operation,

Re: Page Aviation 80"Cub build
Today for the first time, the covered fuselage met up with the covered wing, and the two seemed to be compatible..!
The Cub has now out grown the table it sits on..

When I mentioned to the designer Adrian that I intended to clip the wing, and stick in a big motor, his advice was to brace the tail..
..bracing has been completed,

Re: Page Aviation 80"Cub build
The item lately has been "glazing" ..in other words, installing the windows.
The windshield was somewhat tricky because sections of it have to be removed in the two areas where the wing fits up against the fuselage front. Luckily I had performed this operation back some 41 years ago on a Sig Citabria, so I was aware of what would be required. This time it went much better..!
This model has had a few challenging sections to the overall build, but one of the nicer parts of the build has been the fit of the windows. They have a nice 3/32" lip that allows them to fit into each respective "frame". I used a small quantity of clear silicone adhesive to hold them in and braced them overnight to allow the glue to cure. Only on the first window installed did I need to clean up some excess adhesive and when done right away, just water will work well.
On the right side only the rearmost window is "glazed"...the large door area is left unglazed for battery ventilation.

I'll be getting back on this project now; the other one (Kadet mod) was completed.

Re: Page Aviation 80"Cub build
I know a number of you have been wondering what's going on with this build, so I owe you a couple of progress pictures.
These are of the finishing touches to the wing....getting the servos hooked up, getting a "blacked out" window in the wing service bay hatch, and getting an airfoil shape over the landing lights.
Last item before decals will be to get the cowl painted.
I'm hoping to do the maiden flight at the Shannon field this coming weekend, June 4th or 5th.

Re: Page Aviation 80"Cub build
Not the same shade of "Olive Drab"...but it will have to do for now..!
Can I take a sample of the covering somewhere and get a "spray can" of flat paint to match....? Anybody know a source that does this?
