ARROW (CF-105) from HK
At least three members of HEFA now have models of the Avro Arrow (CF-105) sold by HobbyKing,
http://www.hobbyking.com/unitedhobbies/ ... duct=15535
so it's time to bring all revelent info from these builds to one thread.
Rob has his build well under way and has posted some early comments here.

Here are some pics of the kit pieces assembled loosely for photos.

Re: ARROW (CF-105) from HK
My Dad picked up one of these from HobbyKing back in November, assembly is almost complete. He's having problems getting the exhaust tube to connect properly with the motor installed. One big problem that's been discovered is the white skin on the right wing, near the roundel, is starting to lift and bubble. Does anyone know how this can be fixed? Is it just a matter of heating up with an iron? Neither he or I have any experience with that sort of thing.
Suggestions?

Re: ARROW (CF-105) from HK
I've been a bit slack posting so decided to put a few pictures of my arrow build on the site.
The first thing I had to do was fix a bit of de-lamination at the intakes with epoxy. You can see the de-lamination on the right hand side of the picture.
The second was to sand down the battery hatch to make it flush with the canopy then add the magnets to hold it in place.

Re: ARROW (CF-105) from HK
It presently has a 68mm RC Lander fan from HobbyKing mounted and tested.
EDF Rotor Diameter: 68mm
Outer Diameter: 72mm
Construction: Alloy
Weight: 238g (complete unit with 3.5mm connectors)
Max RPM: 53,000
Motor Type: 2850 3580kv
Max Power: 1000w
Continuous Power: 880w
Max Voltage: 14.8v (4S)
Max Amps: 64A
Max Thrust: 1.7kg

Had to make a ring from a dryer vent to match up with the Lander intake (I didn't have the heart to cut the bell inlet housing on the lander). I will probably have to make a slight "power" bulge on the bottom cover to accommodate the fan as it extends slightly higher than the cover (a few mm). The duct tape looks a bit messy but holds the fan in very snugly. Also, I added the foam supports either side of the fan. Probably will have to cut one out a bit to accommodate the 60 ESC.
The servos you see mounted in the wings are Hobby King metal gear servos.

To keep the exhaust from the fan in place I used hot glue. It has a bit of give and it should be easy to remove if I have to replace the fan.

Re: ARROW (CF-105) from HK
I was going to use electric servoless retracts all around but it turns out that I was unable to find a set shallow enough to mount in the narrow arrow wing so I bought a set of air retracts from Hobby King. The air retracts mounted easily in the wings but will probably have to modify the bulkhead in the nose to mount the air tank. The retracts have been tested and they seem to work well, I easily get seven or eight open/close cycles out of a charge. They don't open very scale however, very fast. They also fail safe in the down position (spring loaded) on loss of air and lock when in the down position.
I had to bend the steel fixed landing gear that came with the arrow to fit the air retract system in the wings.

Looking great Rob, I wonder if it's possible to restrict the air movement to slow down the retract...I have no experience with retracts.

Good question Bill, not sure but might look into it.
