Guai 330X Quadcopter

Unread post by schooner2000 » Sat Jan 22, 2011 7:50 pm

Nothing too fancy, finally getting my 330X going after months of collecting dust. Quick overview of my Gaui 330X quadcopter. Has upgraded protective frame and wide skids, with yellow front props. Just some basic hovering in basement, not much room to move around and the prop wash caused the drifting around, well that and the guy at the sticks :-)

Lighting was bit low for the video so not the best but can watch in 720P for bit better quality.

Next step will be to get the GoPro 960 mounted and then some outside flights if the weather will allow.

I expect the camera's wide field of view makes it less important, but do you have any indication of the vibration isolation performance?
Also, what's the all up weight and flying time with the nano, gopro, and other additions?

BTW: Looks very nice.

I just got it mounted, next will be some flight tests and checking for vibration. I can always add more shock mounting I think if it is an issue.

I've really only hovered the 330X inside with it on, and a few quick flights outside in the fall with stock setup. Hoping to get some flight time in on some nice days this month and into the spring. Also hoping to stick an FPV setup on it.

Quick test flight video:

Test flight of Gaui 330X with GoPro HD Hero 960 mounted to custom bottom plate. Shot in R2 720P mode. Was using a 2S 3000mah Lipo so was low on power compared to 3S.

More videos to come...

Looks like there is a very subtle/slight blurring of the tile "grain" and "grout lines" just before takeoff, but that's only if you're being super picky.

I'm starting to think it would make a fun FPV ship.

I'm also starting to wonder whether I can use the insane programmabillity of my new Aurora 9 to make a controller-less version... yaw control might be tough, but I'd be willing to bank and yank.

I think it may just be grainy due to the lower light level perhaps, plys the tiles do have a texture on them.

Here is another video with 960P mode and also some outside shots.

Ok final final video of the day.

Managed to back into a tree and fall about 12 feet but no real damage. Landing skid mount twisted and camera mount swivelled ahead pushed them back and all was good. That's what I get trying to nose in.
