Another Superfly at SP!!!

Unread post by Enforcer » Fri Jul 03, 2009 6:23 pm

I picked this forum since I was not sure what category a SuperFly belongs in???

Mine arrived yesterday, and I spent till 2:30 this morning setting it up. This included painting it, and trouble shooting what I thought was a problem with the electrics. It turned out NOT to be a problem with anything but me... the ESC I used has the "break" feature turned on by default. So, of coarse, the throttle needs to be pushed forward fully, than back, then it will work!!! Newbies!!!

I can't wait for you to see the paint job I did... yellow, pink, navy blue on the top, and three big circles of blue, orange, and green on the bottom! It really stands out in a crowd... proper thing in my opinion for an SF! ;)

The batteries for it arrived the same day from Hong Kong... five 1800 mAh, 2 cells that fit perfectly under the canopy. They "seem" to be the correct weight for proper CG as well. I will also be using these batteries in the EasyStar. I purchased a little motor as well, with the battery order, to fill the weight quota... seems like a nice little motor for the price ($8.50). I'll bring it and the Superfly over this weekend... I'm on call and may be busy though!

EDIT:

Above I use the term "break" to describe a feature of the ESC I am using. That term is incorrect. The "break" feature on an ESC will prevent the prop from windmilling when you set the throttle to idle (I think). I don't actually know what the "feature" is called that I describe above, but it is set by default on Electrifly brand ESCs! Thanks Andrew S. for setting me straight on this.

Wow...Cool to watch...BUT, can you imagine the calls to, and the fury from,...the Fire Department..!

You might get away with it over large bodies of water..but it was spectacular!

Well, another successful SF test flight. This is a milestone for me. I built, test flew, adjusted, and then successfully flew several times last night and today and did this "almost" completely by myself. I say "almost" because I got lots of good pre/post build info from my HEFA bra-thas!

As Frank states in another post, "I can now get my fix anytime"! :D

Is there a "flat" spot on the prop shaft, from the motor, that comes with the Superfly? I ask this because on two occasions, the set screws have come loose upon a hard landing. The result being a spinning motor, with a nearly stationary prop/shaft.
