Just another reminder...I'll be leaving from the McDONALD's Restaurant in BEDFORD around 8am and a couple other members are meeting me there so join us if your in doubt as to where the sod farm is.

I'll bring along the HEFA canopy, so just bring something to sit on, as well as your lunch..!

Should be an interesting day..

Bill

Just a reminder to everyone who plans on coming to the LSFG (I think that is what Bill called it the other day).

This is a sod farm so Please stay off the grass with the vehicles as much as possible.

See you tomorrow

Andrew

There is a well defined track running through the centre if the field which can be driven. A few hundred metres down the track there is a pile of boulders and some pallets and an area where parping is possible without disrupting the main sod areas.

A quick update on the Lantz Fly-in
I arrived at 8:45 and Bob, Bill and Andrew were there, chomping at the bit to get through the gate ,,which had not,as had been promised by the owner, opened.
This required flying from about 150m from the gate. Not really a big problem, but more of an inconvenience.
Winds were very light WNW. The HighStart was laid out to suit this direction. By 10am the winds shifted to north (as per forecast) and Highstart has to be changed.
Bill had his introduction to Highstart flying.
Winds picked up to about 18-20 kph. i flew a free flight model which with short DT ( a device to terminate flight) which travelled 250 metres and nearly ended up in trees . Enough Free flight!
However, the RC electric and Highstart flying continued without problems.
As the day progressed, thermals began to generate and provide good flights.
the most notable flight was the club Radian flown by Vic and Andrew which teamed up with a friendly eagle and resulted in a flight which in my estimate reached 1000 to 1200 Ft altitude. It was interesting to see how the eagle followed the sailplane into the thermal and flew closely with the model.as time passed the eagle outsoared the model and climbed higher than it. Vic and Andrew had to use spins and diving tactics to get the model down to manageable altitudes.
About 8 fliers and 4 observers had a great flying session.
Unfortunately, Walter Hacker from Tatamagouche with his fleet of state of the art sailplanes was not able to attend. Tom Foote was not there also as he was celebrating his wedding anniversary.

This is an excellent flying field and we have an excellent rapport with the owners. Although it is 45 km (closer than Windsor) from Dartmouth it is a possible target for our next official Field.

Couple of pictures here of Andrew in control of his Elio sailplane ...and one of my KA-8....AFTER a launch gone bad that resulted in a torn off front end. Checking online I see that a complete new fuselage is listed at $38.US....so not to bad. I'll try the Gorilla Glue first though, some of these go back together like a puzzle.

There was one other incident where a certain yellow glider lost half a wing, and the rest of the model raced the separated half to the ground, and WON....something to do with gravity and weight..but that's a story for a physicist..!

It is a large, open, peaceful, place, with all that green grass, and we are thankful to the owners for permission to fly there.
