Float Fun Fly - May 9 - Chester Area

Unread post by bdg » Sun Apr 12, 2015 7:33 pm

Not sure if anyone has seen this or not from the latest zone newsletter. Interestingly enough, I am not finding the newsletter on the maac.ca website (http://www.maac.ca/en/zones_details.php?zone_code=B) but it is certainly available from Al Eastman on the ASRCM website... http://www.asrcm.ns.ca/files/April_2015_Newsletter.pdf and as an upcoming event on maac (http://www.maac.ca/en/events_details.ph ... nt_id=4742)

The "nuts and bolts" is that this is a float fly just north of Chester. Count on close to an hour from metro. Could be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to get out our water planes... Assuming that the ice is off the lake! :D

I'm thinking that my Icon A5, Skipper, PBY Catalina and even my Appentice on floats could find themselves right at home on the lake!

Anyone else possibly interested in going to this event?

I definitely plan to do some water-flying this season, but not sure if I'll have time to get something ready for this event.

Looks like fun though!

Just another facet of the hobby. I have flown my PZ Icon A5 all winter and have hundreds of flights and touch-and-goes from the water. Only a few flights with my PBY from the water.

Flying from a lake adds a new and challenging approach as compared to flying from land. It's a great way to expand one's interest in the hobby.... as long as you have a boat or equipment for retrieval if necessary! I always bring my RC boat but have never needed to test it to push back a downed plane (knock on wood!).

Could be another way to design / build your own plane and to enjoy the water experience! Especially with the location of your home right on the water!

I have received a response from the organizer and there are a few potential changes to mark in your calendars:

(1) Most importantly - there is a proposed date change from May 9 to May 23. There is too much snow! I am happy to say that the snow is taking a real hit with this warmer weather though!
(2) Electric or nitro are permitted
(3) Event starts at 9:00am and continues through the day until 3:00pm or 4:00pm
(4) A boat is available for any necessary retrievals
(5) A BBQ is set-up for self-serve use

Could be a great time!

Brian
